We don’t just make pies—we craft flaky, golden pockets of Indo-African flavor. Each one is packed with bold, slow-simmered fillings that bring the heat, the heart, and the comfort. Think tender chicken soaked in spicy curry. Creamy spinach paneer wrapped in buttery crust. Fiery jalapeño chicken, veggie masala, lamb that falls apart with every bite. Our story began in 2021 with two Zimbabwean friends, a love for food, and a big, flaky dream. Nilesh and Rajen met in college, bonded over field hockey, fishing trips, and family milestones, and eventually reunited in Houston—ready to build something of their own. With Nilesh’s roots in his father’s pie shop and Rajen’s business chops, they mixed tradition, hustle, and bold flavor into what became 2 Phat Bastard Pies.
What started at local markets has grown into a full-on tribute to their heritage: Indo-African savory pies, handmade and packed with love. Every pie tells a story—from the spices of Bulawayo to the streets of H-Town. Family-run, flavor-driven, and proudly phat—we’re here to feed your cravings and your soul.

My second time eating at 2 phat bastard pies. I originally tried them at their old location in midtown. The pies are flavorful with an incredible pie crust. The customer service is also great. They remind me of family whenever I see them. Definitely check them out. You won’t be disappointed!
I will start by saying, this is one of the most delicious and outstanding food experiences I’ve had in the city of Houston. I had never heard of this restaurant before I went to a weekend market at Post. When I saw it I knew I had to try it. I love Indian foods and I love meat pies, so I had high hopes for the two put together! I ordered the lamb curry pie, the chicken curry pie, and the spinach paneer pie. Every one of them tasted absolutely astonishing. The lamb curry pie was my personal favorite. Spicy, hot, very meaty, and with a perfect crispy pie crust. The staff was incredibly nice and the prices were very fair. Absolutely will recommend to anyone, and will return.
I normally buy these buys at the Houston Sabercats stadium where there is always a line waiting. I buy one to eat there and take one home for lunch the next day. Proper puff pastry (like I remember from the UK). The pepper steak is great; packed with meat, full of flavour and very filling. I'm having the chicken and mushroom with some HP Brown Sauce for today's lunch. These are the best pies around - wishing there was a store near me in Sugarland...

Amazing food, great people and awesome stories are in store for you if you decide to try these pies! I got the lamb curry pie and the beef curry pie. Both pies were great in their respective ways. The dough is cooked to golden brown, each pie is made to order and the conversations with the owners while waiting for my food was amazing. I will forever be a customer to this place. Anytime I'm in Houston I will be trying to get some of these.

Food was made fresh to order and came out perfectly. I tried the Vegetable Samoosas and the Chicken Mushroom meat pie. Heard that they had a special menu item for Shepherd's Pie on occasion as well. Definitely coming back here again. Owners were friendly and fun to talk to as well, wishing them tremendous success with this location!
There are only two cities in the world that I would return to just to try a specific dish. One of them is Houston and the dish is the jalapeño chicken pie from 2 Phat Basterds
The vegetarian options are out of this world. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s my new go-to.

I spent time in South Africa, and so to find a "pie" shop was exciting. My wife is from South Africa and we actually drove from San Antonio, for another reason, but drove another 30 minutes out of our way to get these pies. We have been twice in 1 month. Yes parking is a bear, but we talked to the owners and they are moving to another location. The meat is super clean, and it is so tasty. We have had the pepper steak pies, and took some frozen to have at home. Looking forward to the lamb pie at home. These pies put Woolworths pies to shame!!! Definitely recommend these pies! Looking forward to the next trip to Houston to try the samosas.
Not that I’ve had many, but probably the best meat pie I’ve ever had! A little pricy at $12, but the lamb curry pie I had, had such a great depth of flavor! Moist, rich, and the lamb was super tender. Pies are baked to order, which is a huge plus!
It is nearly impossible to find savory pies in Texas, which became my favorite food on Earth after my travels to England and Ireland. You would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't try one of these. Unlike sweet pies, these are meant to be a proper lunch or dinner. Once you try one, be warned: you may become addicted like I have! Again, this is nothing like you have ever had before. Forgot all you know about pies. This is not a desert. As I said, it is something you have like a sandwich or burger for lunch or dinner. In Ireland or England they serve these often with gravy over the top, and sometimes on mashed potatoes. But these pies are still really good even without all that. Please give them a try at least once. You will not regret it.
i got the chicken curry pie, which is SO GOOD, i highly recommend it!!! the owners are super sweet and you can really tell they put a lot of care and effort into what they do. 💗💗
